Stick drift makes a controller move or aim without you touching the analogue stick. It can affect PlayStation and Xbox controllers and usually gets worse as the stick mechanism wears.
The right repair depends on whether you want a standard analogue-stick replacement or a compatible Hall Effect upgrade.
What causes controller stick drift?
Traditional analogue modules use moving contact surfaces to measure stick position. Wear, contamination, mechanical damage or a weakened centring mechanism can move the neutral position away from centre.
Standard repair vs Hall Effect
Restore the faulty analogue mechanism
Often the best choice when only one stick is affected and the rest of the controller is in good condition.
Magnetic position sensing
Can reduce one common source of contact wear, but compatibility and calibration still matter.
Which option should you choose?
If you simply want a drifting controller restored to normal operation, a standard stick repair may be sufficient. If compatible Hall Effect modules are available for your controller and you specifically want the upgrade, it can be considered during repair.
